Christian spirituality stresses that we begin with the gift from above from the Holy Spirit of God. The fruit of the Spirit in our lives is: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control" The Holy Spirit makes us holy, calling each of us to be a saint, a holy person. For the Christian then, "spiritual" refers to the whole of our entire existence, filled with the Spirit of Christ.
As Christian spirituality deals with the entire person, body and soul, it includes our thoughts, feelings, emotions, passions, hope, fears, dreams, our entire lives. Our response to the calling of holiness may take on different schools of spirituality: Franciscan, Dominican, Jesuit, Ursuline, Ignatian or others, all are but a response to the one common Christian call to holiness.
Here at St. Philip The Apostle, we encourage you to grow in your spirituality with two devotions we practice at our parish: one to the Sacred Heart Of Jesus and the other, Padre Pio Devotion. May you be so filled with the Spirit of Christ, that you will one day be able to say as St. Paul once said, "It is no longer I who live, but it is Christ who lives in me."
